NeoMed Hard Hat Tour
This will be a building tour of two facilities: The Campus Research and Academic Expansion (RGE) is a four story addition to the existing NEOMED campus in Rootstown, Ohio. The building includes a four story biomedical research building of 83,000 SF, a Comparable Medical Unit of 20,400 SF, and renovations to 8,000 SF of existing research space.
The project is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. The project is occupied having been completed in July of 2014. The second project is a Health, Wellness and Medical Education Center. This project consists of a new 176,600 SF Health & Wellness Center. The building will tie into an existing building on campus and will feature a fitness area, pools, atrium, urgent care, conference center, back-of-house facilities, meeting and office spaces, and a STEM+M school.
Location: Meet in the Dr. Chatchai and Eleanor Watanakunakorn Medical Research Building lobby, 4209 Ohio 44, Rootstown, OH 44272 (Building F – people should park in Lot “F”)
Time: Arrive by 4:45, tour is 5:00 to 7:00 (we will split the group up and do two tours of each building, one at 5:00 and one at 6:00).
There will be no meal included with the tours.

Both buildings have unique HVAC systems due to the research taking place in th eRGE and the need for humidity control in the HWMEC building.

Materials and Methods – Due to to the research taking place in the RGE, special flooring and materials were selected. The HSMEC tour will discuss the proper selection of material due to the usage and longevity requested by the owner.
Construction methodology – While the NEOMED campus is located in a suburban setting, The campus is a hub of activity which created a tight site situation.
Energy Efficiency – The RGE is a LEED Silver facility and we will discuss the methodology for attaining that designation.
