		<description><![CDATA[Its that time of year again&#8230;. making all those personal new years resolutions&#8230;. now lets work on the news years resolution for your resource libraries! Take 30 minutes to go through your materials and grab a box or bag, throw them in your car and come on down to 30 N High Street in Akron Ohio from 9AM- noon on February 4th, 11th &#38; 18th! Keep spreading the word to all your local designers and pass this on to at least 5-10 friends! These are drop off dates for architects, interior designers, construction managers, facility managers, workrooms, graphic designers, and reps to drop off expired specification samples to our facility. Examples of materials include carpet, laminate, wallcovering, fabric, tile, brick, stone, metal, glass, and stock photo books, paper sample books. Binders are welcome, please empty the contents in your recycled paper container before dropping off. Volunteers are needed to help receive, sort, and weigh the materials. 		<description><![CDATA[AIA Akron FEBRUARY CHAPTER MEETING February 14, 2012   at The Tangier   Energy Efficient Glazing, Speaker: Bob Schrock CSI CCPR, LEED AP BD+C. PPG Industries Architectural Services Manager The PPG presentation on Energy Efficient Glazing will provide information on the technology used in manufacturing glazing and low e coatings.  It will demonstrate how low e coatings work and how energy use in a building is impacted by the selection of low e coatings.  It will explore the relationship between energy management and visible light, define Spectrally Selective glass, discuss the differences between “passive” and “solar control” low-e coatings and show the impact of low e coatings applied on either surface #2 or #3. It will look at the choices of low e performance and available tints when selecting glazing for a project. Participants will gain a better understanding of how to select a proper glazing system for their projects.  The presentation will discuss how glazing systems relate to the LEED rating system for energy, day lighting and material resources.  Participants will learn how the energy, environmental and economic benefits of low-e glass have been quantified through studies and simulation modeling. 		<description><![CDATA[January 11, 2012, “Architectural &#38; Security, Gate &#38; Fencing Systems,” presented by Greg Marchione, Ametco Manufacturing. The course provides an overview of gate and fencing systems, which are both functional and decorative, and are designed to meet modern security and design requirements while harmonizing with the surrounding environment. At the end of this program, participants will be able to identify a wide range of exterior and interior applications of today’s fence and gate systems based on their functional, decorative, and security requirements. We will discuss today’s fence and gate systems in terms of their composition, materials, coatings, and finishes, classify gate track configurations, hardware, hinges, and locking mechanisms. We will identify the performance elements of various types of fencing systems, and the attributes of a variety of infill panel designs.
