AIA Akron is a local component of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We represent over 170 members in 11 counties of the greater Akron area. Our mission is to organize and unite in fellowship the members of the Architecture profession. This presentation will cover a wide range of timely topics important to the Architect, Designer, and Specifier of contemporary interior and exterior metal panels. It will provide an overview of aluminum and metal composite materials as well address ACM’s attributes, basic design guidelines, attachment systems, specifications, and cost considerations.

  1. ACM/MCM: Definitions, attributes and material structures and the manufacturing process,
  2. Physical Characteristics including strength of material and PE & FR core.
  3. Finish Characteristics: Paint, PVDF’s vs. FEVE, and natural materials.
  4. ACM/MCM vs Other Alternatives.
  5. Attachment Systems including exterior (wet seal, dry seal and rain screen) and interior.
  6. Application Examples.
  7.  Cost Considerations.
  8. ACM/MCM Specification Writing.
  9. Project Communications.
