AIA Akron

AIA Akron is a local component of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We represent over 170 members in 11 counties of the greater Akron area. Our mission is to organize and unite in fellowship the members of the Architecture profession. We promote the aesthetic, scientific and art of planning by advancing the standards of architectural education, training, and practice, to coordinate the building industry and the profession of architecture to ensure the advancement of the living standards or people through their improved environment.

Discussion to provide a clear understanding of how the benefits of natural light can be maximized and energy conserved through the proper specification of motorized shades and controls. Correctly specified shades can meet the needs of the individual and provide a superior opportunity for energy savings compared to manual shades. 1LU/HSW.


December 14, 2011, Choices of Air Barriers for Commercial Building Enclosure, presented by Doug Clase, DuPont Building Innovations.

This will be a review of the main types of air barrier materials. Based on the application method there are three main types of commercial air barriers. After attending this presentation, you will be able to understand the main types of air barrier membranes and the main accessories required for continuous air barrier systems. You will also learn specific challenges and common mistakes with examples for each system described. 1LU/HSW.
