AIA Akron is a local component of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We represent over 170 members in 11 counties of the greater Akron area. Our mission is to organize and unite in fellowship the members of the Architecture profession. We promote the aesthetic, scientific and art of planning by advancing the standards of architectural education, training, and practice, to coordinate the building industry and the profession of architecture to ensure the advancement of the living standards or people through their improved environment.
American Institute of Architects Commends Congress for Repealing Punitive 1099 Provision in Health Care Reform Legislation
Washington, D.C. – April 5, 2011 – The American Institute of Architects (AIA) today commended the 112th Congress for passing the 1099 Taxpayer Protection and Repayment of Exchange Subsidy Overpayments Act of 2011, which repeals the expensive and unneeded new Form 1099 paperwork requirement that was slipped into the health care reform bill last year.
NCARB Selects Michael J. Armstrong as Next Chief Executive Officer

Washington, DC—The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has selected Michael Armstrong, currently a senior vice president at the International Code Council (ICC), as its next chief executive officer, effective June 2011. Armstrong has spent over two decades in executive roles in nonprofit, government, and for-profit organizations. During his four years at ICC, Armstrong’s leadership has included oversight of their testing and certification programs, along with the administration of various activities ranging from communications and marketing to membership, chapter relations, and continuing education.
