“Terminal Tower Exterior Façade Renovation”
Ron Czaplicki, PE and Michael Mazzocco, PE of Barber & Hoffman, Inc. will present an overview of the five-year façade renovation of the landmark Terminal Tower, highlighting the work involved during the intricate restoration of this 52-story structure, including materials used and structural design. Stringent historical requirements were adhered to, including Ohio Historic Preservation Office standards. The building was constructed between 1925 and 1930, rising 708 feet above Public Square and is clad with ornamental iron, limestone, and terra-cotta masonry, much of which was replaced during the restoration. The urban setting and height of the project provided many challenges to Barber & Hoffman. This very successful project has won the 2010 ICRI Award of Excellence, 2010 Cleveland Engineering Society Restoration Project of the Year and the 2010 Cleveland Restoration Society and AIA Cleveland /Akron Chapter Preservation awards.
Mr. Czaplicki serves as Principal-in-Charge and Project Manager and Mr. Mazzocco is a Senior Engineer for Barber & Hoffman, Inc.
John Labriola, Chief Building Official of County of Summit Building Standards will present ground rules for submissions and what would be expected roadblocks. He will provide an overview of how to deal with the process, responsibility of the architect and completion of required paperwork. He will also discuss the future of electronic plan reviews.
