The 2014 AIA Ohio Convention

The 2014 AIA Ohio Convention

“A Future Practice”

September 18 – 20, 2014

Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center

Kent, Ohio

AIA Ohio, in collaboration with host chapters AIA Eastern Ohio and AIA Akron will be hosting the 2014 AIA Ohio convention at Kent State University on September 18 – 20, 2014. Working together with members of the profession from throughout Ohio, this years convention will be the first time that AIA Ohio has worked to bring its annual convention to the site of one of the states architectural programs.

This years theme, “A Future Practice” focuses on careers, business and practice opportunities for those who are just entering the architectural profession as well as long time practicioners looking for ways to change their existing practices.  Centered out of the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center, the convention will focus on the connection of practice to the academy as the profession is redesigned.

As we work to reposition the AIA, we hope that you will plan on joining us this September as we connect Academy and Practice.

Discover . Design . Dayton

an Unconventional Convention

Dayton, Ohio will host the next AIA Ohio Valley Region Convention on September 15-17, 2011.  The convention will bring together well over 400 architects from Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio for three days of programs and networking.  In addition, we are incorporating an “Unconvention” designed by and for AIA Associate Members and Architects registered less than three years.  The Unconvention will include its own agenda as well as shared educational programs and events that will be integrated into our core convention agenda. This approach has been developed to provide opportunities for more experienced AIA members to interact and learn with (and from) the future leaders of our profession. We are excited about this unique approach and are seeking presentations that will complement this unique collaboration.

Potential focus areas: Sustainability, Longevity of the Profession, Design, Surviving Difficult Times/Practice Management, Infrastructure, Health Care, Schools, Tax Credit/Financing, Community Design and Planning.  Submitters are encouraged to collaborate on programs.  The committee will look favorably on programs that show strong collaboration.

They encourage presentations applicable to one of these focus areas, the Convention Programming Committee will review and consider alternate program submittals.  They plan to offer several programs that meet the AIA Sustainable Design CE requirements and/or USGBC GBCI credit requirements.

Timeline
They ask that proposals are submitted no later than Friday, April 15, 2011.
They will notify submitters by Monday, May 16, 2011.
